MacGregor

We arrived home from Cadigan's late Friday night, spent Saturday doing laundry, cleaning, grocery shopping, and repacking, spent Sunday worshiping, and headed out early Monday morning for camping trip #2 - MacGregor with friends! This time my handsome husband stayed with us, so we had a wonderfully relaxing and fun holiday. The kids were very much entertained by their friends ....

The weather was still a little cool. We tried the beach a few times, but never really had a full-out "beach day" because we always got a little too chilly. So, instead of lounging on the beach we did lots of other, more activey stuff. Like strolling around in a bike trailer ... do you think Kiera likes it? This was her first time in, and she gave it an overwhelming cheer of approval.

Much time was also spent biking - Seth was once again glued to his seat. He biked up and down the road over and over and over. He and Leah had lots of competitions - races to see who was the fastest, who could make the longest skid mark, and who could perform the neatest tricks on their bike. Seth once again surprised us with his biking ability - he went for several long trips without complaining - and even did trail riding. We were so impressed!

Maddy also spent a lot of time on her bike. She improved dramatically throughout the week, and by the end could bike all the way to the comfort station!

Kiera also got to join in on the biking fun :)

We went on several hikes. Twice we ended up on a beautiful rocky shore overlooking the lake. I tried to capitalize on the beauty by snapping some photos of my kids ... Seth, once again, cooperated.

Maddy was a goofball ....

And Kiera yelled at me :) The shore was a little too rocky (read: hazardous) to do much picture taking of this munchkin.

We went on a few of the guided nature hikes / children's programs that were put on at the Nature Centre. One of these hikes was about birds. After a short (and really good!) presentation on what makes birds unique, we went on a hike to try find birds. We were given pairs of binoculars to help us on our hunt. After the presentation we signed out the binoculars and borrowed them for the remainder of the week. They came in very handy on our hikes!

Three of the most amazing blessings that God has given to me!

Seth and his good buddy.

Our family!

We spent one afternoon scavenger hunting. Before setting out we needed to be sure we were well equipped - with loot carriers. Everyone spent some time colouring some paper bags :)

Three scavenger hunters.

Taking a break from the hike. We hiked to a tall look-out tower - notice the binoculars?? We had a quick snack, then noticed the dark, ominous looking clouds that were rolling in. The way back went much faster than the way there! We ended up making it back to the campsite just in time - and avoided being drenched in the ten minute sprinkle that the dark clouds gave us :)

My cutie patootie.

The whole gang! Well, at least the cute ones :)

We had a great week with fantastic friends enjoying God's beautiful creation. While the weather was not as warm as we would have liked, it was still more than nice enough for us to enjoy ourselves! We only got a little bit of the forcasted rain, and most of it came at night. Seth and Maddy had lots of fun with their friends - playing t-ball, soccer, biking, dinosaurs, building (with the campfire wood), playdough, colouring, and the list goes on! We cannot wait to join these people on another camping adventure soon!

Cadigan's Camp

The first camping trip of the year! We joined my mom's family near Peterborough at a small cottage / campground called Cadigan's Camp. To be honest, I was a little leary about going ... because I went without my trusty sidekick (okay, helpmeet) Greg. That's right - me and three kids camping for a week :) Thankfully, my mom and dad and sister were with us - and were a tremendous help. Despite my worries, we had a fantastic week! The weather was perfect (aside from one particularly crazy thunderstorm that was spent hugging two kids in the van), the campground was beautiful, and the company was great.
Here is a picture of our setup - tent trailer and gigantic dining tent. Oh, and two little cuties in a playpen.

See? Two cuties!

We went with my mom's family. My mom has several younger brothers that have children the same age as mine. Seth made a few new "best friends". He had so much fun playing with them! He and one little girl really loved this teeter-totter. They carried it all around the park.

One of my cousins is a seven year old boy who loves animals ... and can read! A dream come true for Seth! (and me).

Maddy helping me clean the tent trailer - a never ending sand pit with three little ones in and out all day :) Thankful for the extra help!

We have met with my mom's side of the family every five years for a while now. Our gatherings always coincide with a big birthday for my grandpa - this year was number 75! Maddy and Seth made some cards for their great grandpa. It is so wonderful to see them interacting with him and my grandma - My grandparents love my Seth, Maddy and Kiera , and Seth and Maddy always have a hug ready for them :) [Kiera's a little unsure yet ...] We all got together on the evening of his birthday for a big potluck supper - Kentucky fried chicken, salads and cake. The kids also sang a little song for him. Seth and Maddy even joined in! (A big step for both of them!)

We had some very cool weather - especially in the evenings and mornings. One morning it was VERY cold, so we decided to head to a nearby zoo for the afternoon. It was a small zoo - and perfect for us Dutchies, as it was free :) Seth and Maddy are always up for looking at some animals, so they were quite happy to spend the afternoon touring the zoo. There was also a fantastic playground that they got to enjoy for a few minutes.

Enjoying an early morning fire with an early morning visitor :)

Yum! Fruit Loops! We used these to make some fruit loop necklaces, then enjoyed the rest as breakfast for the rest of the week - a real treat!

Remember that cold morning I was talking about - here is a very bundled up Kiera enjoying some toys on her blanket. Thankfully, she quite content to stay on the blanket and hardly even attempted to explore.

Bath time! I took along an extra big Rubbermaid container for baths - Kiera's a little bashful to be bathing outside! Seth and Maddy also loved bathing in the bucket. On one particularly cold day we took the bucket to the shower and filled it there - they both squished in and were quite content to stay for quite a while!

Reading some books before venturing out for the day!

We camped from Saturday to Friday. Seth and Maddy had lots of fun. Seth spent lots of time playing with his friends, a ton of time biking (he even went on an hour long bike tour with his grandma and great-aunt ... after which he confided in me that grandma was not a very good biker - a little too slow!), digging in the sand, and chatting with grandma and grandpa. Maddy mostly stuck close to me or grandma and grandpa. Both kids got to go on a canoe ride in grandpa's canoe, which was thrilling (partly because of the ridiculous amount of candy in their "trail mix"). Seth also went fishing with grandpa and caught two fish!
Greg joined us again on Thursday night and we left late Friday afternoon. It was a great week!

Daddy's Little Girl

You watched me dance like Cinderella,
As precious as Snow White.

I smiled just like an angel, daddy

Because I'm the twinkle in your eye!

I act so much like my mama
When she's taking on the world

But the one thing that I'll always be is ...

Daddy's little girl :)

Thank you, Grandma!

Grandma has been busy sewing, and we are reaping the benefits! She sewed some cute dressed for the girls - and a hat for Seth, so he would not be left out! Now for some hot, sunny weather so the dresses can get more use!

A Face Only A Mom Could Love

Here is Kiera's new face. She did it once and Seth and Maddy burst into giggles. This made Kiera quite happy ... and caused her to pull this face at every opportune moment (ie. every time someone looked at her!) So cute - to me!

Look What I Can Do!

Look who's getting bigger! Standing up ... in the middle of the room, no less :) My baby is not a baby anymore :(

So proud of herself!

Two Cuties

Kiera and our most wonderful downstairs neighbour / cousin / friend :)

Aren't they the absolute cutest?!?! We think so .... and they obviously think I am quite funny!

Stick Storm

On July 7th I had the pleasure of visiting with a good friend from another lifetime - my university roommate. Beth is excellent at keeping up contact, so we have seen each other at least one or two times a year. She had never been to our new place so she made the long drive from Milton for the visit (bringing yummy rice krispy squares along!). We had a nice chat and I thoroughly enjoyed our time together :)
Just as she was getting ready to leave it started to rain ... then pour ... then hail. Soon we could not even see the trees in the front yard because of all the hail. The wind picked up and tree branches started flying, banging into the front window. I grabbed Kiera, Greg grabbed Seth and poor Maddy stood and screamed. Beth (forever after known as Bethleham to Maddy) grabbed Maddy and we hurried behind the kitchen wall. The storm soon ended and our front yard looked like a stick cemetery. Trees were down on our road, the corn in the field across the road was flattened and all hydro poles in a nearby town were down. It was quite the storm - one I hope never to experience again!
This storm seriously frightened Maddy - to the point that she will begin to scream at the slightest hint of wind. Hopefully we can calm that fear soon!
Here are a few pictures of the aftermath:

It took a day to clean up all those sticks!

Little Helper

Maddy was my little helper one morning - she emptied the fridge for me so I could clean! She had quite the enjoyable time :) Hopefully she will have this much fun doing this chore in ten years!

Just Like Mommy

This young man was SUPPOSED to be napping or "quiet timing" ....

instead he was dressing in mommy's clothes :)
