Labour Day Weekend Camping

As per tradition, we enjoyed the "end of summer" with a big hurrah - a camping trip. We switched it up a little this year, and headed wayyyy up north to Awenda Provincial Park (instead of our usual MacGregor). Greg and I had reserved Thursday to Monday ... but last minute (VERY last minute) we decided to head up on Wednesday evening instead. Of course, after installing a trailer hitch, packing, heading out, returning home because we packed too quickly and forgot our bbq, and traffic ... we didn't arrive at the park until midnight. Not so bad ... except one little girl refused to sleep:

Silly girl! We arrived in the dead of night ... and discovered it was a very dark park :) We set up only what was needed, then went to bed. The next day we toured a little, and decided to switch sites.
Setting up is always fun ... especially with eager helpers!

Awenda is full of boulders. This makes for happy climbers:

Awenda is also full of trees. Very tall trees. It is a beautiful campground ... but a little cool :) We headed to the beach on Saturday, dressed in parts, sweaters, coats, running shoes, etc. We arrived, only to discover it was HOT! We stayed for only a few minutes, then returned to our campsite to "undress" a little ... and spent the rest of the beautiful day on the beach.

We managed to get lots of biking and walking in ... biking is definitely a favourite for Seth and Maddy. Of course, the fact that I had picked up new bikes for them a few days before helped! We always go camping with my family on this weekend. Unfortunately, my procrastination got in the way and I booked a little late ... this meant we were fairly far from my parents' and sisters' sites. While this was nice because it meant extra biking trips for the kids, it was too bad because we didn't get to see my family as much as usual (or as we would have liked).

Maddy showing off her treat that came all the way from Holland! Sprinkles for breakfast - leave it to the Dutch!

Awenda has beautiful sandy beaches, bordered by rocky shorelines. Great for hiking and exploring! Seth is so sure-footed he could probably run along the shore ... Maddy needed a fair bit of help :) And Kiera just has no fear ....

This daddy adores his girls!

We got a bit of rain on Saturday evening. I was prepared - and soon the kids were "dirt proofed" in mud pants, rubber boots, and rain coats. Apparently I forgot about faces ;)

Seth has interesting talents. If you can even call this a talent.

We had a great week, with lots of fun!
