Blueberries for Sal

School Time! We kicked off Seth's JK year with Blueberries for Sal - a great story! We did the letter Bb, the colour blue, and the verse "Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called Sons of God". We had so much fun! Seth and Maddy were excited to do our workboxes and disappointed on "non-school" days :) Yay!
Here are a few of our activities (picture overload!)

Printing practice (from 1+1+1=1 RRSP):

Do-a-dot letter Bb ... Seth doesn't look too thrilled here! He does enjoy using the markers, though! These pages are printed from Confessions of a Homeschooler - Letter of the Week program.

I try to do a fine motor activity each day ... this time it was transferring pom poms with "tweezers" (straws). They enjoyed it for a while ...

They had to sort the blocks: blue and not blue :) Here are the resulting towers! (This is very easy for both of them - but still fun!)

Their favourite activity: gummy bear sorting. (Actually they both clarified that gummy bear EATING was the favourite part ... sorting was fun, but not as fun.)

Blueberry picking ... well, blue pompom picking. This was the trial run for the real thing.

Covering the letter Bb with bear crackers - the snack workbox was often their favourite!

We learned about the favourite foods of bears (honey, berries, insects, fish) then did a survey to see which bear food was a people favourite. Seth LOVED this activity. He would have loved to phone everyone he knows to "complete" the survey ... but we ran out of time :) He talked about this survey for a long time! Maddy just followed his lead :)

Blueberry pancake making! Can't learn about Blueberries for Sal, the colour blue, and bears without eating blueberry pancakes!

Yum, yum!

Even Kiera joined in this activity!

Finding all the Bb's in the story (from Confessions of a Homeschooler - kindergarten program).

B is for bandaids. They thought this was fun. Maddy had a hard time unwrapping the bandaids without having them stick to themselves, though. Hers was a little lumpy.

B is also for boat. They painted some water, then glued pre-cut pieces into the shape of a boat. We talked about the names and purposes of each part as we glued.

Another snack workbox - Bb is for blueberries!

And Bb is for biking :) Seth's current favourite outdoor activity (as mentioned in the camping post ... he still loves to hop on his bike and go!) We made an obstacle course for them to try.

Covering a b with blue stickers:

The animal we learned about was bears. We learned about the different body parts, then labelled a picture of a bear.

And, of course, blueberry picking! When I phoned the farm they told me the picking was not very good. We decided to take the chance anyways - and it was great! We got lots of yummy (YUMMY!!) blueberries. They didn't last long!

That was our Blueberries for Sal week!
